Artist Statement
My work interweaves themes of mental health, invisible labor, and fabric waste. Through my art, I aim to initiate conversations about sustainability, anonymity, and the life cycle of materials, urging a reconsideration of our concept of what, or who, is disposable.
I primarily use reclaimed fabrics, which inform narratives of the cloths' past lives, both real and imagined. These fabrics are not just the medium of my art; they are storied artifacts that echo the lives and environments of their past users.
The transformation of these fabrics into art merges modern and traditional processes. I employ technology through digital illustration, AI image generation, and digital cutting, alongside traditional stitching and piecework. My background in graphic design infuses each piece with bold colors, shapes, and contrasts, beginning from their initial conception as digital illustrations.
My art serves as a commentary on the interplay of past and present, exploring how personal and collective memories are interwoven into our societal fabric. As an artist, my ambition is to challenge viewers to reconsider their relationship with the material world and inspire reflection on the nature of disposability. I aim to foster a deeper appreciation for the craftsmanship of textile art and provoke thoughtful, sustainable interactions with our world.
